I crocked the other recipe in my bracket today. I was REALLY looking forward to it because I love gyros. I'm pretty sure they're the sole reason I go to the local renaissance fair.
"Beef Gyros" (6 quart pot)
The original recipe is HERE.
~2 lb boneless beef chuck roast
~1/4 cup olive oil
~2 Tbsp lemon juice
~1 Tbsp minced garlic
~1 tsp dried oregano
~1/2 tsp salt
~1/4 tsp pepper
"Faux Tzatziki Sauce"
~1 cup plain greek yogurt
~1 cup diced seedless cucumber
~1 T fresh dill
~1/4 t salt
~pita bread
~lettuce, tomato, onion
Place beef in crock pot.
Mix oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper in a small bowl.
Pour over beef, turning beef to coat.
Cover and cook on low for 5 hours.
Remove beef from crock pot.
Cut into slices and serve on pita bread.
Top with faux tzatziki sauce.
Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.
8 servings.
We had company over tonight for dinner and a beer taste-off. (Hi Brad, Sandra, Zach, and Katelyn!) They all thought it was awesome and inhaled their gryos. My other half and I were not all that impressed. The beef was kind of dry. The faux tzatziki sauce was fabulous, though. I'd make this again, but with a moister beef and better pitas. The pitas I found were underwhelming, too. Boo. Can you guess which one won the bracket?
