*Note: Some of the directions are COMPLETELY optional. That's pretty much always the case, but this meal was a special kind of special.
Mike picked number 13. (Thanks Mike!) Number 13 was...
"Swiss Steak Supper" (6 quart pot)
~1 1/2 lb beef top round steak
~1/4 t seasoned salt
~1/4 t ground pepper
~1 T canola oil
~5 small white potatoes, quartered (From the CSA.)
~1 1/2 c fresh baby carrots
~1 onion, sliced
~1 (14 oz) can Italian diced tomatoes
~1 (12 oz) jar beef gravy
~1 T minced fresh parsley*
Cut steak into six serving-size pieces; flatten to 1/4 inch thickness.
Rub with seasoned salt and pepper.
In a large skillet, brown beef in oil on both sides; drain.
Cut potatoes. (The card said 3 medium, cut into eight wedges. I used what we had.)
In crock pot, layer potatoes, carrots, beef, and onion.
Combine tomatoes and gravy; pour over top.
*Completely forget to hit start and realize this fact WAY TOO LATE to be able to crock dinner in time.
*Order wings instead.
*Shove stoneware in the fridge overnight and kick yourself for being such a bonehead.
*Take stoneware out of the fridge the next morning, place it in the crock pot, and remember to hit start at the appropriate time.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until meat and veggies are tender.
*Sprinkle with parsley. (I forgot to do this. You know...because I never forget to do ANYTHING. Especially with this meal.)
6 servings.
This was pretty good, but neither one of us would put it in our favorites piles. My little helper wouldn't touch it. (Not even the carrots!) Unfortunately, I don't think that me actually following the directions would have helped anything.
