It's "What's in the box? week!" What does that mean, exactly? I'll tell you. A friend introduced me crock pot liners a few months ago. (Hi Rob!) They're designed to make clean up faster and easier, so I bought a box. Inside each box are 4 liners and a recipe booklet. This week, I am going to crock the recipes that came in my booklet. And I'm going to use the liners 80% of the time.
The back of my box has the beginnings of a pot roast recipe on it, but you have to buy/open the box to get the rest of the recipe. The box contains 4 liners and a booklet of 5 recipes. (Very clever, Reynolds.)
"Crock Pot Pot Roast" (6 quart pot)
~1 Reynolds crock pot liner
~1/4 c water
~4 medium red potatoes, quartered
~1 onion, quartered
~1 pkg (16oz) baby carrots
~1 envelope onion soup mix, divided
~1/4 t salt
~1/4 t pepper
~1/4 t dried thyme leaves
~2.5 lbs boneless beef chuck roast
Attach liner to crock pot as directed.
Place water and 3/4 of the veggies in crock pot.
Reserve 1 T onion soup mix.
Sprinkle remaining mix over veggies.
Sprinkle and rub salt, pepper, and thyme over the pot roast.
Place roast on top of veggies.
Place remaining veggies around pot roast.
Sprinkle veggies with remaining soup mix.
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
It's a pot roast. We like pot roast. The liner? Eh, it made cleaning up tonight a tad easier, but I'm not convinced they're worth the extra money. I'd be more likely to use them for my small pot because the stoneware isn't removable and cleaning that pot is a big pain (yet another reason I should just retire the darn thing), but for my larger pot, it's kind of a waste. I suppose it depends on how annoying you find cleaning out your crock pot to be.
