Something's rotten.

I saw a recipe for "Maggot Stew" two years ago when I made a bunch of Halloween themed food for our annual Halloween party. That was WAY before the birth of this blog. Hell, it was WAY before I knew what to do with a crock pot.

The recipe says to make any stew and then add the "maggots" at the end.

Since I had to clean out the fridge to make room for fun Halloween food I have planned for this year's Halloween party, I decided to make a stew out of what we had. And then add "maggots" because, you know, t'iz the season.
This is what I did:

"Maggot Stew" (6 quart pot)

~1 lb ground turkey, browned
~1 (14 oz) can pumpkin
~1 (2 lb) box chicken broth
~3 carrots, peeled and chopped
~2 celery stalks, chopped
~2 c water
~3 red potatoes, quartered
~1 t salt
~1/2 t cinnamon
~1 T onion powder
~rice, cooked
~2 T olive oil
~1/4 t salt

Put all ingredients except rice, oil, and 1/4 t salt in crock pot.
Cover and cook on low for 10 hours.
Heat oil in a skillet.
Add rice and salt.
Cook until it's not "fluffy" anymore. (Because maggots aren't fluffy.)

THIS is almost what I was aiming for with the two "not soups" I've made this month. THIS is at least, not mush. It's stewie, but not soupy. I would've made it soupy, but it's called "Maggot STEW", not "Maggot SOUP" AND I was using my backup pot.

Ah yes, my backup pot.

The morning after I'd done the caramel apples, I went to clean my pot and noticed that there was a HUGE crack in the stoneware. Vertically, then horizontally. HUGE. It wasn't caused my the sweetened condensed milk at all. It just...happened. I promise.
