Some inspiration.

Technically, this wasn't on my "Make Someday" list until I saw something similar pop up on Facebook on Wednesday. See? I even commented on it!

"Caramel Apples" (6 quart pot)

Make "Dulce de Leche". You can find that recipe HERE or I COULD just tell you again. I think I'll do that. Here's what I did:

~1 can of sweetened condensed milk
~6 fuji apples

Remove label from can.
Place can on it's side in crock pot.
Fill crock pot with water until it's about 2 inches above the can.
Cover and cook on low for 10 hours.
Turn off crock pot and allow to cool for 40 minutes.
Remove can. (Careful. The water and can are probably too hot to touch. I use tongs.)
Open can.
Spoon mixture into a small bowl.
Grab handfuls of the goo and plaster it all over the apples. (You could use a spatula or see if rolling the apples in it works. I jumped right to getting caramel all over my hands because that's how I roll.)
Place apples on wax paper and allow to cool in the refrigerator overnight.
Roll apples in whatever topping you like. (I used mini chocolate chips on the first one.)

This is what it looks like with just the caramel:

This is what it looks like after you roll one around in mini chocolate chips:

Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk. 2 hours into cooking, I realized I'd put a can of evaporated milk in the pot instead.

I can't do an official review because I haven't eaten one yet, but I'm pretty sure they're going to be awesome.

Oh, and I promise that making them won't break your crock pot. More on that later...
