Crock and balls.

My little helper loves meatballs. Frustrated that he doesn't eat much of what I've been crocking these days, I thought I couldn't go wrong. This is "chapter" 17 in the e-book.

"BBQ Meatballs" (6 quart pot)

~1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
~1/2 c uncooked quick oats
~1/4 c dry white wine (The recipe said red, but I didn't have any.)
~1 egg (The recipe said 1/4 liquid egg whites. I substituted.)
~1 onion, finely chopped
~2 garlic cloves, minced
~3 T dried parsley (The recipe said 1/4 T fresh. I forgot to buy some.)
~1 T dried oregano
~1 T salt
~1 c beef broth
~1/2 t pepper
~11/4 c bbq sauce (I used some from our CSA. It was called Happy Mouth.)

I served it with sautéed butternut and yellow squash (From the CSA.)

In a large bowl, mix together the egg, meat, garlic, oregano, parsley, onions, salt, and pepper. (NOTE: BBQ sauce is NOT in this list.)
Soften oats with wine for 10 minutes in a small bowl.
Add wine and oat mixture into the meat mixture and mix well to incorporate.
Coat baking sheet with pam.
Shape meatballs in to 1-inch balls.
Arrange them on the baking sheet.
Bake at 350° for about 25 minutes. (I did mine for 20)
Place meatballs into crock pot. (I put mine on high for 2 hours.)
Heat bbq sauce and broth over medium high heat.
Pour mixture over meatballs in crock pot.
I screwed this up. A lot. If you actually follow the directions, this is probably really good. Unfortunately, my little helper decided to me not so helpful and throw a tantrum while I was putting everything together and I added the bbq sauce in at the very beginning. Yeah. That didn't really go so well. AND then I added the broth at the wrong time. If it wasn't so much work (it loses points for me having to use the oven and do 99% of the work without my crock pot), I'd put this in the do-over pile.

The amusing part of it all? My little helper liked them more than we did.
