~4 lbs chicken (I used a whole chicken because it was so crazy cheap.)
~1 c plain yogurt (I used Greek because I'm cool like that.)
~1 t ginger
~1 t coriander
~1 t cumin
~1 t salt
~1/2 t cayenne pepper
~1/4 t ground cloves
~1/4 t pepper
~6 cardamon pods. (Just when I thought I had every spice on the planet, I had to buy ANOTHER one.)
~6 garlic cloves, whole
~6 drops red food coloring
~1 lemon, juiced
Skin the chicken to the best of your ability.
In a small bowl, combine 1/2 c yogurt, ginger, coriander, cumin, salt, cayenne pepper, cloves, and pepper.
Coat chicken with mixture inside AND out.
Put cardamon seeds inside the chicken.
Place the bird in the crock pot.
Dump garlic cloves on top.
Squeeze lemon juice on top.
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
Remove chicken from crock pot.
Add remaining yogurt to crock pot liquid and stir.
Serve chicken over brown rice.
Spoon mixture over chicken and rice.
4 servings.
This was full of spicy goodness and had a really nice flavor. Like the original crocker, I think that if I made this again, I'd use boneless skinless chicken of some sort. The bones are just plain annoying. Other than that, it's pretty darn good.
