"Pirate Stew" (6 quart pot)
~3/4 cup sliced onion
~1 lb ground beef (I actually used beef this time)
~1/4 cup uncooked rice
~3 cups raw white potatoes. diced
~2 cups carrots, chopped
~1 cup celery, diced
~1 can dark red kidney beans, drained
~1 t salt
~1/8 t pepper
~1/4 t chili powder
~1/4 t Worcestershire sauce
~ 8 oz tomato sauce
~1/2 cup water
Brown onions and ground beef in skillet. Drain.
Layer ingredients in crock pot in order given.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
6 servings.
As expected, I could've done without the rice. It was only a little bit, but I still don't think 'taters and rice belong in the same dish. My other half liked the addition. I also kind of missed the cheese. Both of us agreed that it didn't NEED cheese, but the lack of it forces me to say that I liked "Shipwreck" more than "Pirate Stew". When I make this again, it'll have cheese and veggies, but no rice...and an awesome pirate inspired name because that seems like the thing to do.
This ends "What the...week". Thanks for playing along. I'm taking suggestions for themes, so if anyone out there has any, let me know. I have a few lined up, but I'd love to hear more. 'Til next week...
