Pisketti and meatballs.

It's "Kids Week"! Foods kids love. Crocked.

Kids love spaghetti and meatballs. It's in their DNA. Along with their inability to pronounce the word "spaghetti". This was the perfect opportunity for me make my very first meatballs.

"Mom's Spaghetti and Meatballs" (6 quart pot)

Sauce:

~1/2 c chopped onions
~3 garlic cloves, minced
~2 T vegetable oil
~29 oz tomato puree
~29 oz water
~12 oz tomato paste
~12 oz water
~1 t salt
~1 T sugar
~2 t dried oregano
~1/4 t Italian seasoning
~1/2 t dried basil
~1/8 t pepper
~1/4 c diced green pepper

Meatballs:
~1lb ground beef
~1 egg
~2 T water
~3/4 c bread crumbs
~1/8 black pepper
~1/2 t salt

Spaghetti

Saute onions and garlic in oil in saucepan.
Combine all sauce ingredients in crock pot.
Cover and cook on low while making the meatballs.
Mix together all meatball ingredients.
Form into meatballs. (Mine made 22.)
Brown on all sides in same saucepan with leftover oil from the onions and garlic.
Drain on paper towels.
Add to sauce.
Cover and cook on low for 5 hours.
Cook spaghetti as directed on package.
Spoon meatballs and sauce over spaghetti.

8 servings.
It was a yummy pot of traditional meatballs served over spaghetti. They were tomatoey and not overly full of spices. "Pisketti and meatballs" any kid will love.

  1. Spaghetti is my absolute favorite crockpot dish. This is the way my mom made spaghetti and meatballs for us growing up... browning meatballs (and sausage) that morning or the night before, putting it all in the sauce with all sorts of spices, and just letting it cook all day. The house would always smell heavenly coming home! To this day, crockpot tomato sauce is one of my very favorite comfort foods.
